The Negative Review Roadmap

“Build the tool users are already telling you they want.” This is my go-to mindset whenever I join conversations on new product development.

But where do you find these insights? In my experience, the best place to look is in the negative reviews of competing products already within the niche.

Customers themselves will tell you what’s missing, what’s unnecessary, and what’s frustrating.

These reviews provide direct user feedback, highlighting the gaps in the market, and they’re a totally free feedback source.

So, when I’m part of a team brainstorming a new product or feature, I don’t just ideate, I aim to solve the real problems users have already shared publicly.

The result? When you build what users are asking the market for, they appreciate it.
